Use it when

The annual accounts and tax returns for a year are final.

  • For closing a month or a quarter, which can be reopened, use books_lock.

What it does

Close a fiscal year once its accounts and tax returns are final: nothing can be booked on or before its last day again, by any tool, invoice or unlock, and every earlier year is closed with it. It can't be undone; a correction found later is booked in the open year. Monthly work uses books_lock instead.

What comes back

The books' settings with closed_through, the last day closed for good. Every reply also carries cost_usd and balance_usd.
