Use it when

The business wants profit and loss per department, branch or project; then pass tracking on entries, expenses, bank lines, bank rules, invoice and bill lines.

What it does

A tracking category, like Xero's: a department, a region or a project line, with its options. Up to two at a time. Any line can then carry one option of each (tracking: {"Department": "Service"}): journal entry lines, expenses, bank lines booked to an account, invoice and bill lines; profit and loss splits by a category with books_report by_tracking, or keeps to one option with tracking. Matched by name: options adds options, rename renames them on every line, archive stops new use.

What comes back

category: its name, whether it is archived, and its options with theirs. Every reply also carries cost_usd and balance_usd.

When it refuses

A refused call costs nothing and says what to do next.

Code	When	What to do
`no_books`409	The business keeps no books yet.	Set them up with books_setup (base currency, start date).
`invalid_input`400	A new category has no options, or a name is empty.	Give a name and options.
`not_found`404	An option to rename or archive does not exist.	List them with books_list_tracking.
`name_taken`409	The new name is another category's or option's.	Pick another name.
`limit_reached`409	Two categories are active already (Xero's limit too), or a category has 100 options.	Archive a category first.
