# Set how scans are read (`files_ocr_settings`)

Sets whether new scans are read with OCR as they arrive, and the languages OCR reads in.

auto_ocr: read every new scan (an image, or a PDF without text) with OCR as it arrives, $0.005 a page, charged from the balance; a scan the balance can't cover stays unread and says why. Off by default: scans are then read when you ask (files_ocr). languages: the ones OCR reads in, up to 3 ([] goes back to the account's language: its website's, else its country's, else English). $0.001.

Price: $0.001 a call. A call that fails costs nothing.

Scans come in often (receipts, delivery notes) and should be searchable without asking.

## Errors
